Knowledge base
There’s nothing random about giffgaff’s name. It comes from a Scottish word meaning “mutual giving». We define ourselves as a collaborative mobile network with our customers at the heart of what we do. In this network, we are led by our customers, who we call our members. You play a fundamental role both in our decision-making and our company’s strategy.
We also have a very active community, where you’ll always be welcome and able to share your ideas and suggestions to make us even better. With giffgaff, users help other users solve their problems and answer their queries in the different sections of the Community forum.
With more than 10 years’ experience under our belt, we’re a well-established and reliable operator where we always try to improve to offer you the best service as well as the cheapest and most competitive rates on the market. What’s more, as part of the O2-Telefónica group, we offer excellent coverage and service quality across 99% of the country.
It’s super easy to transfer your current number to giffgaff. You just need a PAC code from your old network.
1. Text “PAC” to 65075 from your old SIM (not your giffgaff one).
2. Activate your giffgaff SIM on our activation
page (you’ll be given a temporary number for the time being).
3. Once your SIM is active, pop over to our number transfer page to enter your PAC.
4. When you enter your PAC, you’ll be asked to pick a number transfer day. That day, you’ll have intermittent service from
your old provider and giffgaff up until 9pm.
5. Success. You’ve now moved your number over to giffgaff. Nice one.
A goodybag is a monthly package which includes calls, SMS and mobile data. Unlike traditional contracts, you pay for goodybags in advance and they last for 30 days from their activation date. This means that you have all the benefits of a contract without having any commitment to stay with the network. After 30 days, you can change it for another, cancel it, or allow it to renew automatically.
A goodybag includes:
- Calls to UK mobiles, landlines and call forwarding.
- SMS to UK landlines and mobiles.
- Voicemail (443).
- Mobile data in the UK and EU.
- Calls to personal numbers starting with 070.
- Call to free numbers starting with 0800 and 0808.
A goodybag doesn’t include:
- Calls and SMS to phones outside of the UK.
- Calls to special rate numbers not listed in the list above.
Pay-as-you-go rates
When you don’t have a goodybag, phone calls, text messages and mobile data are deducted from the available credit on your SIM card. Our prices are as follows:
- Calls and text messages between giffgaff numbers are free.
- Calls to UK landline and mobile numbers cost 25p/minute.
- Mobile data costs 10p/MB.
- Text messages to UK numbers cost 10p per message.
International calls
We offer very competitive rates to call numbers abroad. These rates apply to calls to landlines or mobiles abroad when you are in the UK.
The prices are shown in pence per minute (1p=£1.00), include VAT and are charged per full minute.
The person receiving the call is not charged.
Click here to find the price per minute rate for the country you need to call.
Roaming in the EU
Roaming charges in the EU no longer exist, so when you travel to any EU country or selected destination, you can continue using your favourite goodybag rate just like you use them at home.
There is only a roaming cap in our goodybags which are limited to a maximum of 5GB while outside of the UK. Beyond this, there’ll be a charge of 10p/mb.
These are the countries included as part of the EU and selected destinations where you can benefit from data roaming.
If you use your giffgaff SIM outside of these countries, making and receiving calls costs £1/min, sending text messages costs 30p/SMS and browsing £5/MB.
